Happy Old Year!

Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past. ~~~Henry Ward Beecher

Last night I re-read through my entire blog to refresh my memory before girding myself for the new year. Here are some of what I consider the highlights! I know most people won't want to check every link, or have the time to do it, but don't miss July 23,  September 10th, and October 24 if you only have a time for a few.

My first post on this blog had me weighing 272 lbs. Already 17 lbs less than my all-time high of 289 earlier in the year. That was May 31.
  • On June 2, I first wrote about my sleep iwssues which have been more in the forefront as of late.
  • On June 13, I get my first faithful followers/commentors who have not met me IRL. I still get a lot of support from Anne and Olivia both. They are wonderful people. If you don't read their blogs, you should!
  • June 14, Deb from Weigh Down joined my followers after I bared my fat neck. Go look at it and then reassure me that it no longer looks like that. Thanks.
  • June 27, Erika the Ice Queen is my new follower and I love her blog!
  • On July 5, Lyn commented for the first time. This girl has escaped obesity and is closing in on her goal weight. So proud of her! This is also the first day I went swimming. This kickstarted the weightloss!
  • On July 7 I had a major emtional breakthrough after a visit from a childhood friend. I had been taking my body for granted. No more!  About that time, I found Julie. God love her, that lady is strong! I don't know how she does it some days, but she always comes through! (Now I intended to list my first 5 bloggers that joined me, but I see I've already gone over that limit. I'm sorry I don't have the wherewithal to go through all of the 142 of you! Also, there were a few that didn't "stick" for whatever reason. No slight intended, but these ladies have been around and stayed around)
  • July 13 I found out I have an underactive thyroid. I was full of hope that treatment would solve my energy lows. No such luck!
  • July 20 I apparently forgot that I couldn't run and relearned that lesson.
  • The next day, I was pissed that I just missed my chance of having a superhero cape.
  • On July 23, I came across a now-favorite quote about forgiveness.  This recurring theme resonates with a lot of us and I shared it in the interest of healing our emotional eating habits.
  • July 28th - my late brother's bday - and I quote Allan's great wisdom about food being food and reminded myself not to eat so much of it.
  • July 30th, I found inspiration that finally got it through my head to "eat out loud".
  • On August 2nd I finally accepted the fact that I shouldn't eat unless I'm hungry. I should've reread that post a couple of weeks ago!
  • Two days after that, I became SEVERELY (as opposed to morbidly) obese. Yay!
  • On August 15, I got my Zen on and started learning "acceptance" and the following day, I admitted that I am a diet atheist like Jenette Fulda
  • At the end of August, I got a little grumpy about the words "full" and "bored" and asked people to look at themselves and their habits a little closer.
  • September 1st, I found the magic pill and I gave it to all my readers - for FREE!
  • September 7, I broke into a new decade, having lost over 30 lbs.
  • September 10, I had do "call out" my least favorite planet.
  • The next day, I woke up hungry.
  • Sept. 13, I decide my doctor is more lovable than scary.
  • Sept 16, we talk about polarizing words and their effect on attitude.
  • Sept 18, it was time to try new things.
  • On the 19th, I posted a picture of when I was a hot babe, confessing that I didn't grow up fat.
  • Sept 25th, I have the best NSV EVAH! and I get my fruit on!
  • Sept 29th, I close out the month by realizing forgiveness also applies to MYSELF.
  • Oct 13th I shared my experiences and philosophies about picky eating.
  • Oct 18th, I attempted to share the exercises that help me work out my hip/low back pain and then in the next post alienate some readers with a rant about "pinkwashing"
  • Oct 24th, I published my "This I believe" statement
  • And the next day, I talked about where I'd be in 5 years.
  • On Nov 2, I talked to much and got involved with a really super fun new challenge on Patrick's blog
  • Nov 6th, I became determined to choose JOY :)
  • Nov 10, I realized that wanting things that are beyond my control was the root of much suffering
  • Nov 18, I got a gym membership and tried Zumba and Body Sculpt.
  • Nov 30, I vowed to make the eliptical machine my bitch.
And in December? I showed that eliptical who was boss, started the 200 squat challenge, started weight training at the gym, embarassed myself in Spinning class, discovered dharmaseed.org, drastically cut back on Pepsi, turned 41, got a traffic ticket, got to a weight less than my hubby, got the flu, watched some hysterical wildlife on the pond, saw the Globetrotters, got to a new low weight, and joined a new challenge.

I ended the year 57 lbs lighter than I started it, and with a helluva lot less baggage. Now that I'm saying goodbye to it, and tightening my belt to gird myself for the new one, I'm gald it's over and planning even more success to come.
