Yes! I survived the kiddo's birthday party and will probably even survive the long weekend.
I'm finding it hard to jive into a new routine with it being too cold to swim and school weeks not yet being standard. I'm moving, I'm eating, making choices that are mine whether or not they would be approved.
This week's topic: Negativity and a lack of support can be the most crippling obstacle in any goal, especially when it comes to fitness and health. This week, FitPoint wants to know about some of the negativity you have faced as a result of your goals (and results) and how you deal those situations. What gets you through the storm clouds?
I was going to ignore this week's Fit Point because it seemed to difficult of a subject for me. I was afraid that once I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. I am faced with negativity on a daily basis that most people would never tolerate, but that is an extremely private matter, and a personal choice that most people may not make. That said, there is an example today from the blogosphere that I can share.
Today a total stranger implies that I'm a lunatic because I am not one-sided. I refuse to live an "all or nothing" life. In the past, he has ridiculed my philosophy of weight loss and healthy living, along with that of many others. I often agree with some of his points, but not necessarily his delivery. I will stick up for him (and anyone) when I believe they are right and I will criticize him (or anyone) when I feel they've done wrong.
I like to believe that this today's comment was said in fun. I try to remember that, but I'm human and obviously sensitive. When I commented on that post and the blogger chose not to publish my self-effacing comment, I began to realize maybe it was not so much to be funny, but an actual opinion of me. Again, this may all be in my imagination due to my anxiety disorder or it may be quite a valid sensitivity. It is quite possible that I have, as Merriam-Webster's describes it, intermittent insanity based on the cycles of the moon. My doctor calls it PMS, not lunacy, though. I'm pretty sure anxious and hormonal does not equal crazy. I suppose it can appear that way to some.
So anyway . . . how do I deal with it?
First, a little background: I freely admit that I have anxiety issues, and there are few people with whom I choose to share my whole story. My deepest emotional struggles are not the worry of the blogosphere, nor the business, nor the problem. I realize that we each have our own baggage and I respect that. I believe in the inherent worth of every human life. I believe people should be treated with respect and dignity. I'm imperfect, but I try to live up to my own expectations, not anybody else's. I'm criticized sometimes for seeing varying points of view, for defending myself or others. But, I will not give undue loyalty where it is not deserved. My closest friends know that I will always be honest with them and tell them what they need to know. If I believe they are wrong, I will stand beside them and allow them that privilege, but I won't lie and say that I'm on their side or agree with them when I don't.
I expect to be treated with that same dignity by each of my friends. Those expectations are not always met, and instead of turning bitter and insulting them, I keep in mind that they are human and have their own schism, their own framework of life from which they are viewing things. Yes, they may attack me and treat me negatively. I may be hurt, disappointed, or angry. But, in the end, I choose my reaction even if it is no reaction whatsoever. At the same time, for the most part, I give the person the benefit of the doubt, bolster up my compassion and continue to live my life. Their opinion is not my problem and I cannot, or will not attempt to, alter their opinion by being somebody other than myself.
I have come a long way and I continue to grow and strive to be a person that my daughter can remain proud of daily. I'm imperfect, I realize this. I am a work in progress.

Fit Points: I have some catching up to do!
When I first began this blog, I was sometimes at a loss of what to write. At that time, I was only reading my bil's blog and I noticed he had been using FitBlogs as a tool. I figured joining that would give me at least one weekly somewhat original subect on which to write. Lately, I haven't had that issue and have been sadly neglecting my duty of weekly updates. The more behind I got in it, the more guilty I felt and the more avoidance I practiced. Then I noticed fangirl got all caught up in one post. I'm totally stealing her idea. Click the banner in my sidebar to join FitBlogs.

This week’s topic:
Your fitness Idol: Everyone has an idol when it comes to anything. Who inspires you to do what yo’re doing? Who inspires you to try harder?
See my sidebar for "blogs that inspire me". Mostly, though, my daughter inspires me. Having grown up in a single parent household, I know I don't want that for my daughter. The best way to prevent it is to take care of myself. She is also a good trainer at 8 years old. She encourages me, keeps me honest with myself, keeps me on track for my goals. She's simply amazing.

Eating Out! It’s summer, and for a lot of people that means more holidays, more vacation, and more eating out at restaurants. What restaurant satisfies your tastebuds and your health conscience?
Whenever possible, I check the menu online before I leave home and plan ahead. Grilled chicken salad or baked/broiled fish are my standbys. Local diners are my favorite.
Workout Videos:
Some people can answer this is one word, others have tried many videos. Some of us have found that one that works, and others are still looking.
Workout Videos have been a staple in women’s fitness for a long time, but now it’s become common for a man to use them as well.
So what Videos have you tried, and how well did they work for you? Have you found THE ONE?
I find I can't do the same video over and over, but I love almost every video Richard Simmons has ever made. The man is a comedian. He makes me laugh. I also like the Billy Blanks Jr. cardioke. The people take some getting used to, but it's fun and different.
Most days I use my Wii game called Walk It Out if I have to exercise inside.
Workout Clothing!
What do you wear when you workout? Something cool? Something warm? Do you want to sweat? Are you avoiding heat stroke? Or do you just dance around in your underwear in your living room?
If I'm outside, I'll be wearing either my swimsuit or shorts & a tank top. I suppose I'll have to move onto sweats and a t shirt soon with the NW Ohio weather. If I'm inside, it's a tshirt and shorts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That wasn't so hard. I guess I wasn't as far behind as I felt. I find that is often true with avoidance - it makes things seem worse than they are. Definitely, avoidance is not a good coping tool and is one of the many crutches I'm going to have to rid myself of as my journey continues.
Fit Point: Alternative diet
I guess I'd better quick get my fit point up before the next one is posted.
This week’s topic:
Alternative Diet Options
This week’s FitPoint explores Alternative diet options: Many health conscious individuals may be Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-free dieters or employ other alternatives to the normal dieting habits even semi-regularly, and we want to hear about them! What are the health benefits of the way you eat, and why did you decide to eat this way? What is your favourite recipe?
At first I wasn't going to post on this because I don't have any restrictions to my diet but then I realized that in itself IS an alternative.
I am not denying myself any foods, nor am I counting calories per se. Instead, I am attempting to be very analytical about each choice I make. Do I really want that strawberry pie baby? Am I going to be madder at myself for having it, or madder if I don't have it and feel deprived? Sure, I might check the calorie content before making the final decision, but that's not the same as recording and calculating the number of calories in each meal, each day, or each week. I'm not compelled to use up my bonus calories by the end of the day or week then, and I'm really not feeling deprived of anything. I'm making good, informed choices that I can live with. (Yeah, I ate the strawberry pie baby) So far I'm down 20 lbs and this is starting to feel like a normal way of eating!
Fit Point: Intensity and recovery
This week’s topic:
Intensity and Recovery!
We all workout at different intensities and vary in how often. How hard do you work-out? Do you ever fatigue yourself or do you workout just enough to get a little burn? If you do go all out, how do you deal with this or recover? What is your routine after your workout?
Because of my size, it doesn't take much instensity to burn some fat. Also, in part because of my size, I have bad knees and must treat them kindly. Therefore, I keep it low key and keep my cool water nearby. There are times I do get breathless enough that it would be difficult to talk, but recovery takes just a couple of minutes. I'm taking it slow. Don't want to hurt myself and create a situation where I have a major setback because of my inability to do more.
