Sleeping update

Over the weekend, I had some limited success with the CPAP. The trick was to actually tape my mouth shut with masking tape to prevent air blowing into my mouth and down my esophagus. Well, hey, at least my reflux wasn't bothering me when that was happening.  Today I received a chin strap from the equipment company. The idea is that it will stop my jaw from dropping open as my facial muscles relax, making the tape unecessary.  This should also help prevent the horrid flatulance sounds that emit from the side of the mask just as I fall asleep. Now if I hear it I will know for sure it is Hobbes or Sweetie emitting such racket.

So, just as all this falls into place, I come down with a cold. We'll see how the CPAP does with that.

For some reason it occured to me that I could name my machine. Hey, some people have named their "bands."  I think this guy is going to be around for a while. I'm sleeping with him. I should know his name after all.

Any suggestions?

  3. We name lots of things here too. Well really Jim does. I'll see if I can think of something. I'm not to sure I could handle something over my face but to breath better and sleep better it will be worth it for you.
Take care and have a blessed day.

  4. God I love the invention of the CPAP!!! I had to sleep in our guest room for 10 months, until FINALLY, Jeff went and had a sleep study. The man woke up over 200 times a night!!! No wonder he fell asleep while driving home from work.

I call Jeff Darth when he wears his CPAP!

    How about Princess Leia :-)

  7. Great blog you've got! As for CPAP, I got one about 6 months ago. It's collecting dust. I've tried several masks but just couldn't get used to it. Too bad, it seems to make so many people's lives better!

  8. It is really hard when you have a cold or plugged up noise to wear the mask. Those are the few times that I don't wear mine.

The reason your mouth is opening is that there is not a proper seal on the mask. If there was a) it would not whistle and b)it would create a vacuum and your mouth would not open.

Just talking from my experience. Just remember that it will take some time to adjust it but it has been prescribed to you for a reason and it really will help you feel better.

As for the name, I would have to think about that one. I just call mine my sleep machine or mask...

    P.S. Sorry for the ramble...

  9. I named mine Fernando and I loved him. After one week of using him I felt like a new person--I had no idea how little I had been sleeping.

The bonus was how fun it was telling people I was sleeping with Fernando, my new latin lover. Yah. I don't get out much.

Hope you are adjusting well, and hopefully you will love yours as much as I did mine.
