That's obese!

Each morning my Wii Fit cheerfully reminds me that I'm obese. And then I remind it, that I'm not as obese as I was, and it should probably be more encouraging. Then it asks me if I'm ready to work out. Then I realize I'm having a conversation with an inatimate object and I can turn it off whenever I want to!

So, with a body mass index of just over 40 now, as opposed to the 42.something that I started out with, I became curious. I knew that I was probably what people call "morbidly" obese, but I wasn't sure where the cut-off was between morbidly obese and what I like to think of as it's opposite, cheerfully obese. Or Jolly Obese. You know, like Santa.

Wikipedia has a nice breakdown.

Any BMI ≥ 35 or 40 is severe obesity
A BMI of ≥ 35 or 40–44.9 or 49.9 is morbid obesity
A BMI of ≥ 45 or 50 is super obese

I can't tell you how pissed I am that I was SO CLOSE to being Super Obese and didn't even know it. I mean, C'MON! Who doesn't want a cape and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Well, it's too late for me now, because I'm simply morbily obese. And not for much longer. Yay, I'm practically severely obese! Apparently "Jolly" isn't officially a category, either. Perhaps we should all get together and lobby for that. These things are important, after all!

I'm hoping that soon my Wii Fit bar won't rise ALL the way to the top of Obese and at least fall in the middle somewhere. It'll be lovely to see that move downward, however slowly, and remember how high it used to be. I'm doing it. It's working.

  1. Don't you just love the wii fit. I love it and use it everyday. I like the way it tells me my wii fit age. What is your favorite exercise on it? I like the mushroom counting game and the marching game. I also like the one that reminds me of Mario.

  2. They should totally have different categories.

Like Mrs. Doubtfire Obese, Santa Obese, Grimmace from McDonalds Obese, etc. That way you know when you're delightfully pudgy or really having issues.

I so need to get a Wii Fit. Just looking for when they're on sale. :)

  3. First get your Wii which is about $200 bucks. It comes with some sports games, but then you can get other fitness games like "walk it out" that don't require the Fit board and all that. I refuse to purchase anything besides fitness games for ours and I insist that I get at least 30 - 60 minutes on it daily. Mean mom!
