Down today.

And it's a good thing. I'm down 2.4 lbs this morning from yesterday. That's 255.1 lbs for anybody who is counting. Still a big girl, but I'm not hungry and I'm taking in less than a thousand calories a day. I only know that because I was curious and counted them up in retrospect after reading so many bloggers who are concerned with their calorie intake.

These are quality calories that I'm taking in. No sugar-free nutrionless treats for me. If I'm going to have 130 calories, I'm going to make it good stuff. Unless it's my Pepsi - then I'm just having that - and only one a day. When I want chocolate, I have Nutella or walnuts. I don't buy junk food most times, unless I REALLY want it and can't stop obsessing about it. I do buy a treat for my kid - usually poptarts. So there's stuff in the house, but I don't want it. If I think I want it, I read the label and wait 5 minutes. If I still want it, I have it.

I eat what I want when I'm hungry. I stop eating when I'm satisfied as opposed to full. Full is not a good feeling. I move my body at least 30 minutes a day, but often more. I weigh myself daily.

A lot of those things the diet gurus will tell you are wrong, evil, counterproductive. I think it's just because that can't figure out how to make money off of it yet.

Bring it on!

  1. I tell ya, I just don't know what to believe from the diet "gurus" anymore.

I recall several years back a bunch of them got together on Capitol Hill to battle it out and at the end of the day couldn't come to a consensus except this: eat less, exercise more.

And they've made how many billions of dollars off of us? :)

  2. I think the diet gurus are in cahoots with the naughty food business to make us deprive (which makes the gurus money) and then we binge on naught food (which makes the naughty food CEOs RICH RICH RICH). It's a conspiracy man!

Okay, enough. WAY TO GO LANIE! You rock!

  3. Woo hoo!!! May you have many down days, ahead. :D

Sounds as if you have a solid plan working for you. I am a little concerned about your very low calorie level, but you know your body and how you are feeling. So, no lecture or hassle. Promise. :D

I don't think that one Pepsi a day is a bad thing. A six pack a day? That could be a problem. he he I love my coffee and I am not giving it up. Moderation, baby! It is my new watchword.

"The gurus" can kiss my big, white bootay. My gurus are right here... In Bloggerland. On my blogroll. You are all my inspirations, teachers and gurus.

  4. You give me food for thought. I get around 1,200 calories per day and am told it is not enough. Then today I weighed and am UP a pound since last Tues. I may reduce my calories back to 1000 every other day or so just to change things around.

My eating plan is similar to yours. If I want it, I eat a little, but try to stay away from the junk and fast food.

  5. Erika; I'm curious - what do you think will be the result of my lower calorie intake? What's to worry about?

I like your gurus and they are mine too! Those "professionals" can kiss our bootays together. lol That should take some time.

  7. The worry (in my opinion and guess) is that if you have too few calories, your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to weight. But when you're eating many fruits and vegetables that are low calorie, it's really hard to consume that much food to get to 1200-1500 (which is recommended for weight loss). Am I right, Queen of all that is cold?

  8. I don't think my body is stupid enough to think it's starving.I think it would send me hunger signals before that would happen, don't you? I'm definitely not going to go hungry. I have an extreme aversion to discomfort of any kind.

  9. I would definitely think so, but that could be the fear of the others.

  10. Apparently, I brought my soap box with me when I started my comment... the system told me it was too long to post as a comment. I did get on a bit of a rant with it though I admit, so anyone who wants to see what just my opinion was I'll post it at http://www.lessofaman.com/. I'll edit it a little more since it's not directly following this post, but please do understand it's just a rant from one person's perspective... ;)

  11. I was looking a little more at the one link I had in the original comment... it specifically addresses the questions here, but in perhaps a more concrete fashion. Check it out! http://www.shapeup.org/atmstd/sud10v3/sud10s7.php

  12. Thanks everyone. You guys should really go check out Toph's blog. He inspires me (even when I'm right and he's wrong) but we normally are pretty agreeable with one another.

I realize I've abreviated this, but I think it is all relavant since it's all in the same paragraph. I'm sorry to tell you this but there are absolutely zero "quality" calories in Pepsi, or any other soda out there. There is ZERO nutritional value in any soda. There is however, a crap ton of high fructose corn syrup. Even if it was regular old sugar it would be 100x better for you than the HFCS. You might want to look into it and see what that HFCS does to your metabolisim and carb cravings. Also you say you don't buy junk food most times but you also have a Pepsi every day. If Pepsi isn't junk I don't know what is, and daily is "most times" at least on my timetable.

I'm sorry, and I know this probably pissed you off. But it is the truth and sometimes we don't see things for what they are.

  14. Lisa, what part of "unless" don't you understand? I know Pepsi is junk food. I said as much here. I'm not defending it as health food or quality calories.
