200 Squat Challenge: Day 2, Week 3/Power of One/Healthy Living Goals

I just did my squats and my grand total for the day is 173! Let's see if the one-armed Mandy(t) can beat that!  Whoo, my back hurts and my legs are gelatinous. (There's a word you can't work into daily conversation without trying).

Trying to catch up on reading blogs and I see that one of the most cleverly named blogs, Cankles and Carrots is joining a challenge called The Power of One at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans blog. Because I'm not afraid of failure, and because Steve's HOT 100 is cming to a close, I foolishly signed up.  Please go over and suffer along check it out with me.  I have no idea what I've signed up for. Really. I'm not good at tracking on routines of any kind. I tend to rebel against them, even if - or especially when - they are self imposed.

The thing that sold me on this challenge was the cute and clever name of the blog  fact that they outwardly reject the notion of new year's resolutions. Sold! However, the challenge for today is to list my new healthy living goals. So, what can I come up with for this?

  • Continue Blogging Daily
  • Increase my compassion capacity
  • Stretch my frustration tolerance (Thanks Anne!)
  • Continue losing weight and making my doctor happy
  • Participate in a 5K walk in the first half of the year
  • Achieve a healthy BMI by the end of the year
Another part of the challenge is to take measurements and a "before" photo which I will do tomorrow at the gym since I have no clue where our tape measure is now. Kiddo has a playdate in the afternoon and I plan to visit the gym at that time, so I'll ask the trainer to take measurements for me at that time. I do know that my weight this morning was 232 lbs even. It says I should blog about my bathroom scale, but I use my Wii Fit board as my scale and it's not in the potty :) (tee hee, I said potty).

  1. I like the second bulletpoint :-)

You know, I never even thought of teaching them to do the laundry - good one.

  2. 173 squats?? Wowsa's that's awesome!!
    Good goals

  3. Thanks Brett. Compassion is hard to come by and some days are more challenging than others. Just like with my weight, I've come a long way but I still have a long way to go!

Suzi - don't be too impressed. They are not consecutive. I think I did 43 consecutive squats. Sometimes I think I could do more if only there weren't math involved. lol

  4. Don't shrug that off, that IS impressive!! I may have done 40 total last night and I'm crippled this morning, LOL!

I don't comment too often, but just wanted to say that I have so much respect for you. I don't know how you could possibly improve on your compassion/frustration tolerance! Just wanted to stop by and send hugs!! :)

  5. Thanks Mrs. D for all the kind words. Trust me, I'll be hurtin' tomorrow, but I've gained SO MUCH strength doing this challenge that it's worth it. Stretch a LOT and follow the 200 squats program on my links page if you want to build up to it. I tell ya, it's pretty rewarding!

  6. I may have to start that! Right now I'm just using the new Kinect game I got for Christmas- My Shape. I don't think it likes me.. it keeps telling me "lower!" on my squats and lunges!

  7. Wonderful healthy living goals, Lanie. I've been in a couple of 5K's and the energy is amazing. Wonderful, shiny, happy people all out for the same thing - a healthy life.

I already think you are a compassionate person :-)

  8. YAY I am glad you are joining the challenge! I can't wait to follow your progress!

  9. So....explain to me the difference between "New Year's Resolutions" and "My New Healthy Living Goals." Really.

Is it just that people sometimes put off good choices until Jan 1st?

  10. Lanie, I will write down my goals in the a.m. but I wanted to tell you that I really appreciate all your encouragement and support and for telling me about blogging. I am learning continually (both good and bad) about myself.
    Here's to a good challenge!

  11. Deb; I guess that's part of it. I've always had an aversion to New Years Resolutions, though. It seems so arbitrary to pick a day and say that's the day you're going to start being the person you want to be. Why not start now, and not just for the year, but for good, forever?

Anne; Thanks for the kind words.I'm so grateful that CD introduced us through facebook a while back. I value our friendship and comradarie more than you know!

  12. I like the daily blogging goal for sure! It is a great way to stay focused on what you're trying to get accomplished...

  13. I only ended up with 125 squats. But that was one armed and wondering if I was gonna hurl!

  14. Lanie, have you done a 5k walk before. This is something I have wanted to try but keep wondering if it's too soon after quitting smoking. I really think I can do the walk. BTW, great goals for the challenge

  15. No, Anne, I haven't ever done one. There was a rumor that there'd be one in Stryker, Ohio to benefit research for childhood cancer. That is supposed to be around St. Pat's day, I believe. Mandy will fill us in. That's a little closer to Ft Wayne than Toledo - maybe we could all do it together!
